Events & Community Involvement

Canton Area Chamber of Commerce cares about being active in the community and is a sponsor for many events, programs and offers an annual scholarship to a high school senior. Here are some of our activities:

Giving Tree Program

In an effort to assist families in need, the Chamber has teamed with the Canton Area School District to provide Christmas gifts to children in the school district.  The program is entirely anonymous.  Monetary donations are accepted from the public and then CASD staff & clubs do the shopping and wrapping. The only information provided to shoppers and wrappers is the sex, age and "Needs & Wish List" compiled during the application process. The program continues to be successful through generous sponsors such as the Fall Fling.

Gift Certificate Program

We feel so fortunate to live in a small town! In an effort to keep local money spent locally the gift certificate program was created.  Certificates in $10 and $20 amounts can be purchased year round and then used at participating chamber businesses.  So, you could use the certificate to pay for your prescription or take in a movie; the uses are endless.  The certificates can be purchased at Chemung Canal Trust Co., Canton Independent Sentinel, Canton Boro Office or First Citizens National Bank.

Canton Wine & Cheese Festival

The first annual Canton Wine & Cheese Festival was held in June 2010.  This event was a collaboration between the Chamber and Rekindle the Spirit Inc.  The festival was a huge success, with nearly 900 people attending.  Look for the event to be held in June 23, 2012.  Visit www.cantonwineandcheese.com for additional information on this event.

Other Events:  Recycle Day (May), Community Block Dance (June), Community Yard Sale Days (June), Nostalgia Night (July), Farmers Market (May-September), Light Night (night after Thanksgiving), Canton Country Christmas (Sat. after Thanksgiving)

The Chamber sponsors the Mildred Burk Scholarship each year.  This is given to a graduating Senior from Canton Area High School who will major in Business.  This is a $500 scholarship.
